Abstract

Objective: To strengthen the understanding of the roles played by pharmacists in the prevention and treatment of infectious diseases in some developed countries, and learn from their experience in order to enhance the professional potential of Chinese pharmacists. Methods: By searching PubMed and CNKI for relevant literatures about pharmacists' roles in the prevention and treatment of infectious diseases and literature review, we summarized and compared the situations at home and abroad, so as to get enlightenment and put forward relevant suggestions. Results: Pharmacists in China have made some contributions in major infectious disease events, but the roles of pharmacists in infectious disease prevention and control has not been fully explored and played, comparing with some developed countries. Conclusion: To enhance the have of pharmacists in the prevention and treatment of infectious diseases in China, the government should give policy support, affirm the professional value of pharmacists and give them full rights to undertake the corresponding work of prevention and treatment of infectious diseases. At the same time, the higher pharmaceutical education needs to be reformed and improved, and the pharmacists' self-construction should be strengthened too.
