Objective: To investigate the current situation of pharmaceutical cares in 146 medical institutions with pediatrics and the abilities of 225 paediatric pharmacists for pharmaceutical cares in Shanxi province, and study the current problems of pediatric pharmacy services. Method: Questionnaires were distributed in the form of "Wenjuan Star" to investigate the staffing situation, hardware and the service in pharmaceutical cares of the medical institutions in Shanxi province, and statistical analysis was carried out. Results: The medical institutions in the province are not equipped with intelligent pharmaceutical equipment, accounting for 53.42%, which needs to be improved. The number of pediatric clinical pharmacists was small, accounting for only 16.44%. The services, provided by the surveyed medical institutions in pharmaceutical cares for pediatric patients account for a relatively larger proportion, such as explanation of medication, medication consultation and education, prescription checking and science popularization of pharmacy, the PIVAS, outpatientpharmacy, chronic disease management and therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) of pharmaceutical cares for children account for a relatively smaller proportion, accounting for 11.64%, 10.27%, 4.79% and 4.11% respectively. Conclusion: This survey demonstrated that there exist many problems of pediatric pharmacy services in medical institutions in Shanxi province to a certain extent. The pharmaceutical cares need to be improved as a whole, and the service mode is still at the exploratory stage, which needs to be gradually modeled, standardized and unified to provide homogeneous pharmaceutical cares for patients.
